Carol Seibert was devastated when a chest X-ray revealed a 2-inch mass in the middle of her right lung. A lung biopsy and advanced imaging tests confirmed stage 1A non-small cell lung cancer. A true California girl, Noel Lopez-Freeman grew up in the sun. She spent most of her life in California before relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio, for her husband's residency training. Butter and baby oil were Amanda Moore’s introduction to the joys of tanning—and turning her pale complexion bronze during her teen years. The day she turned 18 she bought an unlimited tanning pass and went just about every day for years. At age 27, she was diagnosed with melanoma. At age 30, she experienced another melanoma. Joseph Polaniecki: Non-Surgical Kidney Cancer Treatment Option
When he was diagnosed with a second kidney cancer, UC Health urologists suggested an innovative technique known as computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous cryoablation. The procedure uses 3-D imaging technology to direct a small probe through the skin and into the kidney to freeze cancerous tissue. [read more]

Ira Goldman: Specialized Surgery Improves Quality of Life for Colon Cancer Survivor   
When Ira Goldman was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 56, he was given just one option—removing his entire colon and a permanent ostomy. He chose to get a second opinion with UC Health, where he was offered an alternative surgery that would enable him to maintain bowel function post-surgery and avoid a permanent ostomy.  [read more]

Jen Meier: Patient Finds Advocate in Support Services Team   When Jen Meier developed a mouth ulcer that just wouldn’t heal, her doctor suggested she consult an ear, nose and throat  (ENT) specialist just to be safe. Her UC Health ENT surgeon recommended surgery to close the wound and avoid potential infection. Surgery and further testing resulted in a stage-3 head and neck cancer diagnosis. [read more]

It’s obvious when you meet Mary Williams-Johnson that she thrives on taking care of other people, whether it’s in her professional life as a surgical technologist or her personal life as a wife, mother, daughter and sister. Joann Behm: Lifetime Smoker Encourages Others to Quit While flipping through the newspaper one day, Joann Behm saw a story about a clinical trial to test a new way of screening lung cancer in people at high risk for the disease being conducted at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Making the call to enroll was a no-brainer for her. She had been smoking cigarettes since she was 14. [read more]

J.J. Jioducci: Patient Has Message for Women: "Get Your Woo Woos Checked"
When J.J. JioDucci experienced unexplained vaginal bleeding, the possibility of cancer never crossed her mind. Then one day the bleeding became so extreme JioDucci thought she was hemorrhaging. After consulting with her gynecologist, she underwent a biopsy that revealed endometrial (uterine) cancer cells. [read more]
